What Otter is and who it is for

Otter is aimed at teams that want live transcription, a summary and actions from each meeting. It has a free plan, plus Pro, Business and Enterprise.

It can record in two ways: with an assistant that joins the call or with its desktop app, with no bot.

When Otter is the better choice

• You use Windows, the web or your phone. PolarParrot only runs on a Mac. Otter runs on all of those.
• You want to stay free for longer. Otter gives you 300 minutes a month. PolarParrot gives you 3 meetings per Mac, and that is it.
• You need the text while people talk. Otter transcribes live. PolarParrot writes the notes when you stop.
• You are a team. Otter sells Business and Enterprise. PolarParrot has no team plan.

When PolarParrot fits

• You work on a Mac and do not want an assistant on the call. PolarParrot has no bot mode: it always records from your Mac.
• You want to decide when it records. It only records when you press record. If you tend to forget, that is a downside.
• You prefer paying in euros with VAT included. Otter publishes its prices in dollars.

Which Otter alternatives work in Spanish?

Otter transcribes Spanish. Beyond that, tl;dv says it works in Spanish from Spain and Mexico. Tactiq has a Spanish interface. PolarParrot has its app in Spanish. Granola transcribes Spanish, but its interface is English only.

What PolarParrot does not do

• It only runs on a Mac. There is no version for Windows, iPhone or Android.
• It needs two macOS permissions: the microphone and system audio recording. Without them it cannot record.
• FaceTime. PolarParrot cannot record the other people on FaceTime: macOS only lets it record your voice.
• Download. The App Store version is not available yet. You download PolarParrot from this website.
• The audio leaves your Mac. It is uploaded to our server to write the notes and deleted when they are done. You can change that in Settings. Transcription does not run on your Mac.
• The free part is short: 3 meetings per Mac. Pro includes 20 hours a month, and extra hours are sold separately.
• The price is per person. There is no team plan.

What we could not check

Some details about Otter we could not settle:

• Which plan includes MCP: its pricing page says Basic and an official help page says Enterprise.
• Which plan includes the bot-free app: one official page says Enterprise and others treat it as general.
• Its help centre could not be opened: those details come from the official search snippet.
