# PolarParrot

> PolarParrot is a Mac app that records your meetings without adding a bot and writes up the notes for you. Your AI, whether Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, can read all your notes. It is a product of Polargate (POLARGATE S.L., Madrid).

#### The recording keeps going

It only stops if your disk fills up or you stop it.

##### No wifi

It keeps recording. The audio stays on your Mac and uploads when you're back online.

##### Switching headphones

Moving your earbuds to another device doesn't stop the recording.

##### If the others go quiet

If you're talking and they can't be heard, it warns you and tries to reconnect. They don't always come back.

##### If the app closes

In the download version it reopens by itself and carries on with the same meeting.

#### The audio is deleted once the notes are ready

That's the default. If a free meeting runs past an hour, the rest is kept for 30 days. The notes are yours: delete them whenever you like, on your Mac and on the server. No ads, and we don't sell data.

FaceTime is the exception: macOS only lets it record your voice. If the others stop being heard on a call, the app warns you and tries to reconnect.

#### Questions

Will people in the meeting know? Nobody joins the call, so nobody sees anything. You have to tell them yourself and, where the law asks for it, get their consent. The app reminds you during setup and while you record.

Do I have to switch video call apps? No. PolarParrot records your Mac's audio, so you keep using the one you have.

What happens to the audio? It's uploaded to make the notes and deleted once they're ready. To keep it, turn off 'Delete the audio when done' in Settings.

Does it work on Windows or on a phone? No. It's a Mac app for macOS 26 or later.

### Mac meeting recorder

A Mac meeting recorder saves what is said on a video call and leaves you notes. Some add a bot to the call and others record from the computer. PolarParrot, which we make, is a Mac-only app that records the meeting from your computer, using the macOS microphone and system audio permissions, without adding a bot to the call. If you use Windows or want to record on your phone, another tool on this page will suit you better.

#### What a meeting recorder does

There are two ways to record a meeting, and it helps to know which one each tool uses:

- **With a bot.** It joins the call as one more participant and everyone sees it in the list.
- **From the computer.** An app records system audio and your microphone. Nobody joins the call.
- **Inside the platform.** Zoom, Teams and Meet have their own AI notes.

#### Which Mac meeting notes apps do not add a bot?

- **No bot at all:** Granola, Jamie, MacWhisper and PolarParrot always record from the device.
- **Both options:** Otter, Fireflies, tl;dv and Krisp have a bot and a bot-free mode.
- **Fathom** uses a bot by default. Its bot-free option is in beta and only on Mac.

#### How much does it cost for one person?

PolarParrot Pro costs €15 a month or €150 a year, with 20 hours of meetings a month, VAT included. That is similar to others, not the lowest.

Free plans are not the same either. Fathom publishes unlimited recordings. Otter gives 300 minutes a month. Jamie gives 10 notes a month. MacWhisper has a free version and a one-off Pro.

PolarParrot's free part is 3 meetings per Mac, up to 1 hour each, no card.

#### If you already pay for Zoom, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace

You may already have AI notes inside your platform, so check your plan first. The catch is that Copilot and Gemini live inside their own platform: if you use several, your notes end up scattered.

Copilot in Teams does not do intelligent recap without a paid licence: it needs Teams Premium or Copilot, with transcription on.

#### How to choose a Mac meeting recorder

1. **Where you will use it.** If it is not just on a Mac, rule out the Mac-only ones.
2. **Whether a bot on the call is fine.** Some clients and companies do not want one.
3. **Where the audio goes.** Some transcribe locally and others in the cloud.
4. **How many hours a month you have.** Some plans have a cap and some do not.
5. **Whether you want to ask your AI.** Check if it has MCP, on which plan, and if it only reads.

#### What PolarParrot does

- Records your Mac's audio and your microphone when you press record.
- Keeps your voice apart from everyone else's.
- Leaves you notes with a summary, decisions, actions and questions.
- Adds what matters from the screenshots you take while recording, up to 12 per meeting.
- Your AI (Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor) can read your notes over MCP, on every plan. Only read.

#### What PolarParrot does not do

- **It only runs on a Mac.** There is no version for Windows, iPhone or Android.
- **It needs two macOS permissions**: the microphone and system audio recording. Without them it cannot record.
- **FaceTime.** PolarParrot cannot record the other people on FaceTime: macOS only lets it record your voice.
- **Download.** The App Store version is not available yet. You download PolarParrot from this website.
- **The audio leaves your Mac.** It is uploaded to our server to write the notes and deleted when they are done. You can change that in Settings. Transcription does not run on your Mac.
- **The free part is short**: 3 meetings per Mac. Pro includes 20 hours a month, and extra hours are sold separately.
- **The price is per person.** There is no team plan.

PolarParrot records your call's audio and your mic from your Mac. When you press Stop, the notes are written and your AI can read them.

#### The first time

With Google or with an email code.

##### Allow access

Mic and Mac audio, one at a time, each explained. Screen is optional.

##### Run the test

Five seconds to check both tracks can be heard.

##### Choose where it shows up

In the menu bar or also floating next to your video call, and whether it opens when you log in to your Mac.

#### While you record

The panel shows the time and both tracks. If only one is moving, you know something's off before the meeting ends.

- It records your mic and your Mac's audio separately.
- It warns you if the others stop being heard while you talk.
- Take screenshots with ⌃⌥⌘C if you allowed screen access. Up to 12 per meeting, and what matters goes in the notes.
- Long silence? It asks if you're done. It never stops by itself.

#### When you stop

The audio is turned into text and the notes get written. Then the audio is deleted, unless you change that in Settings.

- A one-line summary.
- Actions and, if it came up, who owns each one.
- Decisions.
- Questions to clear up anything unclear.
- The transcript by speaker, if you keep it: you choose in Settings.

#### How to connect it

In the app, open Connect your AI and follow the steps. If it asks for an email and a code, click Show my code right there.

##### Claude

1. In Claude, go to Customize > Connectors.
2. Click + Add and choose Add custom connector.
3. Paste the address, click Add, then Connect. Enter your account email and the code.

The Claude app and claude.ai share the connection.

##### ChatGPT

1. Open ChatGPT's settings.
2. Under Connectors, create a new one and paste the address.
3. Enter your PolarParrot account email and the code we send you.

You need a ChatGPT plan that allows custom connectors.

##### Cursor

1. In PolarParrot, open Connect your AI and click Add to Cursor.
2. In Cursor's settings, under MCP, connect polarparrot.
3. Enter your account email and the code we send you.

Whatever you already have in Cursor stays as it is. In the App Store version, click Copy block and paste it into ~/.cursor/mcp.json.

##### Claude Code

1. In PolarParrot, open Connect your AI and copy the command.
2. Paste it in the terminal.
3. Open Claude Code, type /mcp and enter your account email and the code.

Read only. It can't change or delete anything.

- **buscar_reuniones:** Searches by words, dates or person.
- **acta:** Reads the full notes of a meeting.

#### How to read these tables

Prices are what each website showed on 2 November 2026. Some websites change the currency by country. If a row does not mention tax, its website does not say whether it is included. Details we could not settle are on each tool's alternatives page or, for the others, at the end of this page.

#### When another tool fits better

- **You use Windows or want to record on your phone.** PolarParrot only runs on a Mac. Granola, Otter, Fireflies, Krisp and Jamie run in more places.
- **You want to stay free.** Fathom publishes unlimited recordings on its free plan.
- **You want nothing to leave your Mac.** MacWhisper transcribes locally. PolarParrot uploads the audio to write the notes.
- **You are a team.** Fireflies, Otter, Fathom and Jamie sell team plans. PolarParrot does not.

#### What to know about PolarParrot

- **FaceTime.** PolarParrot cannot record the other people on FaceTime: macOS only lets it record your voice.
- **Teams.** On Teams calls with three or more people there is an open bug: the others can stop being heard. The app warns you and tries to reconnect.
- **Download.** The App Store version is not available yet. You download PolarParrot from this website.
- **Permissions.** It records with no bot, but it needs two macOS permissions: the microphone and system audio recording.

- **Read AI.** Its help centre could not be opened. A web app is not confirmed.

- **Notion AI Meeting Notes.** Its page gives prices per member a month and a yearly discount, without the yearly prices.
- **Bluedot.** Its two price series have no label: the page does not say which is monthly and which is yearly.
- **Tactiq.** The price changes by country. Pricing and help pages disagree on MCP access per plan.
- **Fellow.** Windows: its features page says yes and its help says Mac only.
- **Zoom AI Companion.** Its pricing page does not say which plan includes AI Companion under that name.
- **Copilot in Teams.** The Teams Premium price could not be read. It is not confirmed that its MCP server exposes transcripts.
- **Gemini in Google Meet.** Whether an outside AI can read those notes through the Docs MCP is not checked.

- **You need the text while people talk.** Otter transcribes live. PolarParrot writes the notes when you stop.
- **You are a team.** Otter sells Business and Enterprise. PolarParrot has no team plan.

#### When PolarParrot fits

- **You work on a Mac and do not want an assistant on the call.** PolarParrot has no bot mode: it always records from your Mac.
- **You want to decide when it records.** It only records when you press record. If you tend to forget, that is a downside.

- **FaceTime.** PolarParrot cannot record the other people on FaceTime: macOS only lets it record your voice.
- **Download.** The App Store version is not available yet. You download PolarParrot from this website.
- **The audio leaves your Mac.** It is uploaded to our server to write the notes and deleted when they are done. You can change that in Settings. Transcription does not run on your Mac.
- **The free part is short**: 3 meetings per Mac. Pro includes 20 hours a month, and extra hours are sold separately.
- **The price is per person.** There is no team plan.

Some details about Otter we could not settle:

- Which plan includes MCP: its pricing page says Basic and an official help page says Enterprise.
- Which plan includes the bot-free app: one official page says Enterprise and others treat it as general.

To record a meeting on a Mac without a bot, use an app that records system audio and your microphone from the computer itself. macOS asks you for two permissions, and nobody joins the call. PolarParrot, which we make, works this way, and so do other apps.

#### How to do it with PolarParrot

1. Open PolarParrot in the Mac menu bar and sign in with Google or your email.
2. Give it the two permissions macOS asks for: the microphone and system audio recording. Without them it cannot record.
3. Tell the people in the meeting that you are recording.
4. Press record when the meeting starts and stop when it ends.
5. When you stop, PolarParrot writes the notes and lets you know: summary, decisions, actions and questions.

If the others are missing from the notes, the system audio permission is missing. It is in System Settings, under Privacy & Security, in Screen & System Audio Recording. Your first 3 meetings are free on each Mac.

#### How do I record system audio and my microphone at once on a Mac?

You need both, because they travel separately. Your voice comes in through the microphone. Everyone else comes out through system audio. A meeting recording app picks up both, and you keep using whatever video call app you already have.

#### How can a transcript keep my voice apart from the others?

By recording your microphone and system audio separately. PolarParrot does this, so the notes know what you said. Not every tool handles it the same way: Fireflies, without a bot, leaves labels as Speaker 1 and Speaker 2.

#### What can I use when my company blocks bots?

An app that records from the computer adds nobody to the call. Still, ask first: if your company blocks bots, it may also restrict recording or installing apps. And we recommend telling the others. We cover that in [how to tell people you are recording](https://polarparrot.com/en/guides/tell-people-you-are-recording).

#### What PolarParrot does not do

- **It only runs on a Mac.** There is no version for Windows, iPhone or Android.
- **It needs two macOS permissions**: the microphone and system audio recording. Without them it cannot record.
- **FaceTime.** PolarParrot cannot record the other people on FaceTime: macOS only lets it record your voice.
- **Download.** The App Store version is not available yet. You download PolarParrot from this website.
- **The audio leaves your Mac.** It is uploaded to our server to write the notes and deleted when they are done. You can change that in Settings. Transcription does not run on your Mac.
- **The free part is short**: 3 meetings per Mac. Pro includes 20 hours a month, and extra hours are sold separately.
- **The price is per person.** There is no team plan.

### How to record Teams, Zoom and Meet on a Mac

Teams, Zoom and Meet can be recorded on a Mac with an app that picks up system audio and your microphone, or with each platform's own notes. PolarParrot, which we make, works with all three without adding a bot, using the macOS permissions. It has an open bug on Teams, explained below.

#### How do I record a Teams meeting on a Mac without a bot joining?

Open PolarParrot, press record and join the Teams call as usual. It records from your Mac, so nobody else appears in the participant list.

On Teams calls with three or more people there is an open bug: the others can stop being heard. The app warns you and tries to reconnect. If your Teams calls are always group calls, try it first on a meeting that does not matter.

If your company has Microsoft 365, also look at Copilot in Teams, which writes the recap inside Teams. It needs a Teams Premium or Copilot licence.

#### How can I record a Zoom meeting if I am not the host?

An app that records from your Mac does not use Zoom's recording, so it does not depend on the host's buttons. You press record in PolarParrot and join Zoom.

#### How do I transcribe a Google Meet call for free?

Gemini notes in Meet are not free: they need a paid plan, and it is the organiser who needs it. These options have a free plan:

| Otter | Both: an assistant that joins the meeting and a desktop app that records without a bot. | Free with 300 minutes a month. Pro: $16.99 a month, or $8.33 paid yearly. |

With PolarParrot, Meet records the same way as Teams or Zoom, and your first meetings are free.

#### Each platform's own notes

Each platform has its own option. Copilot and Gemini work inside theirs. Zoom's My Notes also works on Teams and Meet:

#### What about FaceTime?

PolarParrot cannot record the other people on FaceTime: macOS only lets it record your voice. The app tells you. If you have the choice, use another platform. PolarParrot also works with WhatsApp.

#### What is a meetings MCP and what is it for?

MCP is the way an AI connects to your data. A meetings MCP lets Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor read what was said in your meetings.

So you can ask "what's still open from the rates meeting?" and your AI looks it up in your notes, with no copying and pasting.

#### How to connect each AI

The connector address is https://polarparrot.com/mcp. In the app, open Connect your AI and follow the steps. If it asks for an email and a code, click Show my code right there.

**Claude**

1. In Claude, go to Customize > Connectors.
2. Click + Add and choose Add custom connector.
3. Paste the address, click Add, then Connect. Enter your account email and the code.

The Claude app and claude.ai share the connection.

**ChatGPT**

1. Open ChatGPT's settings.
2. Under Connectors, create a new one and paste the address.
3. Enter your PolarParrot account email and the code we send you.

You need a ChatGPT plan that allows custom connectors.

**Cursor**

1. In PolarParrot, open Connect your AI and click Add to Cursor.
2. In Cursor's settings, under MCP, connect polarparrot.
3. Enter your account email and the code we send you.

**Claude Code**

1. In PolarParrot, open Connect your AI and copy the command.
2. Paste it in the terminal.
3. Open Claude Code, type /mcp and enter your account email and the code.

#### What can your AI do with your notes?

Only read. It cannot change or delete anything, and it reads only the meetings on your account.

- **buscar_reuniones**: Searches by words, dates or person.
- **acta**: Reads the full notes of a meeting.
- **acciones_pendientes**: Pulls out what's still to do.
- **transcripcion**: Reads what was said, by speaker.

There is a cap on calls per hour. You can disconnect it any time in Settings.

#### Which AI notetakers have an MCP connector?

Almost all of them do now. What changes is the plan and whether the AI can write. This is what each one publishes as of 2 November 2026:

| Granola | Yes, with OAuth. Basic gets 30 days of notes and no transcripts. It is not read-only by default: it can add or remove notes from folders, and on Enterprise an admin can make it read-only. |
| Otter | Yes, with OAuth. It is in the Claude and ChatGPT directories. |
| Fireflies | Yes, with OAuth or an API key. It also has an API on every plan. |
| Fathom | Yes, for Claude, ChatGPT and Claude Code. Its pricing page lists a public API and MCP. |
| tl;dv | Yes, from Pro up, and read-only: it cannot create, edit, delete or share meetings. |
| Jamie | Yes, with OAuth, for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Claude Code. From Pro up, plus an API. |
| Krisp | Yes, with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others, on all three Meeting AI plans. |
| MacWhisper | Its website does not mention MCP. It has a command line tool for agents and takes your own OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini and other keys. |
| Read AI | Yes, on every plan including free, according to the official search snippet. |
| Circleback | Yes, from Free, with an API and a command line. For Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and Raycast. |

### How to tell people you are recording a meeting

We recommend always telling the people in the meeting that you are recording and, where the law requires it, getting their permission. The app reminds you. With no bot, nobody on the call can see you are recording, so telling them is up to you. The rules are in the official sources in this guide, which is general guidance, not legal advice.

#### Why we recommend telling people even with no bot

With a bot, people see one more participant. With an app that records from your computer, like PolarParrot, they see nothing. So we recommend telling them yourself.

The app reminds you when you set it up and while you record.

#### How to tell people

1. **Before the meeting.** If you can, put it in the invite.
2. **At the start.** Say it out loud, before you press record.
3. **Say what it is for.** For example, to write the notes. Say too if an AI will read them.
4. **If someone says no, do not record.** Take notes by hand.

A line you can use: "I'm going to record this so I can write up the notes. Is that OK with everyone?"

#### Some tools tell people for you

With Gemini notes in Google Meet, participants get a notice. Notion, with its Meet add-on, gives notice in the chat and above the camera. PolarParrot does not notify others on the call: you have to do that yourself.

#### Do I need to tell people when I use an AI notetaker without a bot?

We recommend telling them anyway. Whether the law requires more than that is not something we can answer: it depends on the country, on who records, on why and on what is discussed. We do not give legal advice.

- **In Spain**, the data protection authority is the AEPD. Its frequently asked questions on [obligations for companies and the self-employed](https://www.aepd.es/preguntas-frecuentes/2-tus-obligaciones-como-responsable-del-tratamiento) are a good starting point. They are in Spanish.
- **In other EU countries**, each has its own authority. They are on the [European Data Protection Board list](https://www.edpb.europa.eu/about-edpb/our-members_en).
- **If you record for your company**, ask whoever handles this there first.
- **If you have doubts about a specific case**, ask a lawyer.
